Jean-Baptiste Letendre (1848- )
Born in Sorel, Jean-Baptiste Letendre became the epitome of the self-made man. He owned a dry-goods store, Au Bon Marché, in the east end of Montreal, the "Morgan" of the East. He built his residence, Oakleigh, in 1904 on the shore of Lake St. Louis (36 Lakeshore Road, Beaconsfield). It was demolished shortly before year 2000.
